Former WARRIOR SOUL Frontman Talks About His New Band DIRTY RIG

April 20, 2005

Former WARRIOR SOUL singer Kory Clarke recently spoke to RockConfidential.com about his new band DIRTY RIG. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:

RockConfidential.com: I was turned onto DIRTY RIG a while back and I wanna know how you all got hooked up.

Kory Clarke: "I was doing one of my solo shows in the city. I was downstairs entertaining everybody, just like normal, before the show. Steve (Seabury, bass player) smashed his way into there somehow. He was totally obnoxious! He came running down and said, 'Dude! I'm in the best band ever and you're gonna be in it! It's gonna be great!' You gotta be kidding, right? Who is this guy? He was shoving this fucking CD in my face and I was like, 'What is this? DIRTY RIG? What are you talking about?' I didn't know what to think. The next day I called a friend of mine at Metal Edge, Dov Teta, and he said that Steve was an OK guy except when he gets drunk he goes out of control! That doesn't sound to unusual, ya know? I checked out the CD and there was one song I happened to like. I decided I'd go check 'em out. It was good and they're very good players. I did a gig with them and we started writing some songs. It's a good thing."

RockConfidential.com: I know you're working on a new record now. How's that coming along?

Kory Clarke: "We'll be six songs deep by the time we do our showcase in April. The production sound really good. It's going to be done and released in September. We're making some pitches to some management, lawyers, and labels. That's a necessary thing to do. My spleen got screwed up in early January and we were supposed to do a showcase then. I couldn't perform live for a few months so we decided to do the album first."

RockConfidential.com: What's your goal with DIRTY RIG?

Kory Clarke: "I want to make this next record really amazing. I'd like to see it in the Billboard Top 200. I think to really be able to tour and develop our fanbase, have this album be the base to springboard us into the next one. We want to look at and develop some target markets where we can really make it happen. As we go into next year I want to be headlining.

RockConfidential.com: Do you think rock 'n roll has a chance in today's marketplace?

Kory Clarke: "There's a lot of people that don't want rock 'n roll to succeed. When rock succeeds people have fun. When people have fun that makes other people lose control. Talk about Nazis! They're trying to push that legislation for the national ID card. Where's the fucking terrorists, fuckface! What about all these billions of dollars we've spent trying to catch the terrorists? They're not worried about nobody. They know where the terrorists are. When they need 'em again, they'll call 'em. If we need to go into Iran...it's insane. That's all the more reason to listen to rock bands. You might catch the truth!"
